However, after lots of noshing, nibbling, and grubbing, we found that a few are particularly enjoyable from a picnic basket on a balmy spring day. And if you need an excuse to grab a blanket and enjoy delicious food al fresco, remind yourself that it is rich in probiotics, which are the feel-good bacteria that love you back.

Yogurt & Berries

We have spent a lot of time educating people about how yogurt is not the only viable source of  probiotics. There is no argument that many unpasteurized yogurts with live bacteria can be an excellent resource for probiotic supplementation. But let’s also not overlook the fact that there are few things as refreshing as a bowl full of yogurt and fresh fruit.

Tip: Enjoy strawberries, blueberries, cherries, and apricots with your yogurt while these fruits are in season this spring.

Kombucha

For many, iced tea is as essential as air conditioning during warmer weather.  This spring, try swapping that iced tea with some kombucha, a fermented tea rich in beneficial microbes. This cold tea works on double time to cool down your body while revving up your beneficial bacteria counts.

Whether you have made your own kombucha or purchased it in stores, it offers a unique blend of flavors that can always brighten your palate on a warm spring day.

Sauerkraut  

Hotdogs, brats, and summer sausage are great for grilling or noshing on at the park.  The only thing that makes it better is a heaping scoop of sauerkraut. Not only does this fermented food add a burst of flavor, it is like including a shot of probiotics on your plate. Yummy!
